Job Definition

Under the direction of an immediate supervisor, the Substitute Custodian performs routine custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality within a school environment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Example of Duties:

• Sweep, mop, wax, and scrub floors.
• Dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles.
• Wash windows, walls, restrooms, and classroom heaters/screens.
• Sweep sidewalks and play areas.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment as required.
• Clean drinking fountains
• Replace light bulbs and replenish supplies.
• Turn off lights and secure doors and windows.
• Report repair needs
•  Watch for vandalism.
• Operate power cleaning equipment.
• May perform limited grounds maintenance and minor non-technical repairs.

Desirable Qualifications

Training and Experience:

• No prior experience is required.

Knowledge of:

• Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.

Skills in:

• Following oral and written instructions.
• Using standard cleaning tools and equipment.
• Performing manual labor associated with custodial tasks.

Ability to:

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED
